Mexico Wall

Example Letter 1
(added 28 January, 2017)

[your address] [date]
Dear [name]:

I am writing to express my concerns about the Mexican border wall that President Trump is trying so desperately hard to construct.  While border security and illegal immigration are very clearly concerns that must be addressed, every study and anecdotal evidence suggests that the wall would cost billions of dollars and would prove essentially ineffective, as many of the border crossings do not involve simply climbing over a wall.  The costs of such a construction project, between materials and labor is estimating to be well over $10 billion, and in some cases as high as $20 billion, a bill that would clearly be paid out of our taxes, as the Mexican government has indicated that they will not and cannot be compelled to pay for it.  Invariably, for this wall to be built, it will the average American taxpayer funding the construction.

Instead, a border wall would serve as a communication and trade barrier between one of America’s closest allies and largest suppliers of raw materials for product development.  Clearly, this effect would snowball, as America would pay more for these materials, raising the prices of goods we purchase.  President Trump’s lack of diplomacy in proceeding this issue is only helping to further damage this relationship, as he continually rebuffs and insults not only Mexicans, but every Latino who is willing to risk losing everything he has to pursue the American dream.  It is that kinda of intrepid spirit, and not some isolationist rhetoric and xenophobic security that is what truly made America great in the first place!

For being the primary promise of President Trump’s campaign, the Mexican border wall is an idea that is not feasible, not effective, and not smart.  Instead of providing a method of securing our border, all we seem to be securing is our own economic crisis and the loss of an ally. I urge you to use your powers, your vote, and your influence to stop this wall from being built and wasting the tax dollars on what will only prove to be an inadequate and ineffective symbol of Donald Trump (and not America’s) hatred.

Sincerely, [your name]
