Dear Senator Collins,
I wanted to commend your efforts to introduce The Global Health, Empowerment, and Rights (HER) Act on January 24, 2017, and hope you will continue to be a loud voice for women's reproductive rights in Congress. Although I am not a resident of Maine, I feel as though your moderate voice represents me and many of my generation within the Senate, and hope you will remain strong in your position on this matter.
As I am sure you are aware, the most vulnerable women around the world struggle to access reproductive healthcare, which in turn affects access to education and a more prosperous economic future. I recently read in National Geographic that within Sierra Leon, it is estimated that only about one in three girls attended secondary school between 2008 and 2012. As Sierra Leone’s ministry of education banned pregnant girls from attending school, pregnancy remains one of the biggest hurdles to education; in 2013 more than a quarter of girls 15 to 19 years old in Sierra Leone were pregnant or had children.
Supporting gender equality and poverty reduction abroad, which are strongly connected to reproductive healthcare, remains in the strategic interest of the United States. As the U.N. illustrates, effective family planning leads to economic productivity. "If adolescent girls in Brazil and India were able to wait until their early twenties to have children, the increased economic productivity would equal more than $3.5 billion and $7.7 billion, respectively." Increased productivity results in widespread employment and economic prosperity, which promotes stability aligning with American interests, within politically volatile regions.
Despite anticipated opposition from the more conservative, and male members of congress, I urge you to please remember these facts as you work to pass this bill.
Please let me know what I can do, as a concerned citizen prepared to mobilize others, to help you move this legislation forward. I know for one, I will speaking to any friends from Maine in supporting your re-election.
Respectfully, [Insert name]

Dear Senator [insert GOP Senator], I'm part of the #WomensMarch movement. I'm concerned about President Trump's assault on constitutional rights: my bodily integrity; freedom of speech, press, and belief; and equal protection. Trump has contempt for these things. He reduces women to a body part-one he feels free to grab. He has racially discriminated. He rejects science and rewards his cronies. This is un-American. Please reject his unqualified nominees; demand divestment and full tax disclosure; and investigate Russian involvement. And please stand up to protect women and people of color. Our democracy depends on good Republicans like you. Please fight for us. - [NAME, CITY]
